An elevator consultant is someone who specializes in the Design, Modernization, Testing, Maintenance and Inspection of elevators, escalators, moving walkways and any other conveyance that move people and products. They are not to be confused with elevator mechanics.

Consultants (unlike mechanics) should not normally perform work on conveyances. Some elevator consultants may also work as private elevator inspectors. The State of Florida accepts independent third party inspectors for certified inspections while others may employ their own inspectors.
